'Let us be clear - blood is on the hands, not just of the Israeli military and leadership, but on the hands of those states and institutions who have provided cover for these atrocities, such as the European Union'
The offices of the European Commission in Ireland were stormed on Thursday morning by activists calling for "an end to Israeli war crimes" against Palestinians in Gaza.
Dublin for Gaza issued a press release on their protest calling on the EU to work towards an "immediate ceasefire" and "hold Israel accountable for war crimes and impose sanctions for continued breaches of international law". "Over the last ten days, thousands of Palestinians living in Gaza have been killed, including over one thousand children, with hundreds of thousands left homeless as Israel continues its indiscriminate bombing and ethnic cleansing campaign. The most recent bombing of Al-Ahli Hospital has shocked the world."
Lyons also drew parallels between the Palestinian plight and the Irish republican struggle for independence from historical British imperialism, saying: "Across the world, people are mobilising and demonstrating in solidarity with the people of Gaza and Palestine, including in Ireland where we share a common history of colonialism with the Palestinian people."
