Dublin vs Galway will stream on the app on June 29 at 6.15pm, with Armagh vs Roscommon taking place beforehand at 4pm

Dublin GAA legend David Hickey said he believes it’s “wrong” that fans have to shell out money to watch matches on GAA GO.

The app took over from Sky’s fixtures after it ended its broadcasting partnership with the GAA in October 2022. A subscription for the app costs €79 a year or €12 per match. Dr Hickey, who was part of three All-Ireland-winning Dublin teams in the 70s, said it’s the older generation who are missing out the most, as they might not have a computer or extra money for the app.

“I think this idea of privatising our national sport of amateurs which is run by the goodwill of volunteers and then the top sell off the games and they can’t watch it without paying for it, it’s not right.” Dr Hickey said that while he understands the organisation needs to make money, he doesn’t think it should come from fans who probably “devoted their lives to actually developing the game”.

However, the GAA said all matches can’t be televised as RTÉ is now its only partner. At the time, the Tánaiste said: “There is a danger that, if you go down this particular route you are restricting the audience inadvertently.
