Dublin man Iain Liam Ward, The King of Chemo, has been nominated for the Voice of Change award at the TikTok awards in London for his fundraising efforts

A Dublin man diagnosed with terminal cancer has been on a fundraising mission to raise money for charity, aiming to break the world record for funding for cancer research all while countering “the stereotype of having cancer”.

The very first thing that I searched for was marathons because I'd done one before. I knew that they were a huge association with fundraising, and then also something that would kind of counter the stereotype of having cancer, which is that you're bed bound and weak, loss of strength, loss of fitness.

“People know it's serious, but people don't really know as much about how chemo isn't going to be as bad for, you know, good reasons and bad reasons. It means survival rates are significantly less as well. But I was just kind of thinking that's a good story. “About a year and three months ago, I did 32 counties in Ireland in 32 days, so it was kind of a month plus one, and I did a half marathon in each of them,” Iain explained.
