Rolling out a VAR-type system across the country would be impractical at present, but Gannon sees no reason why it couldn’t be in use at Croke Park at least.
Dublin's Claire Gannon has backed the introduction of a VAR-type system on the back of the controversy in last Sunday’s All-Ireland camogie final.
However, the referee and umpires chalked it down despite television replays suggesting that the goal should not have stood. “But I think if they used the Hawk-Eye or the replays in those matches, it would help massively for those big decisions on those days. “I think there’s some decisions that happen just way too quickly in a match that there’s no way the ref can see, or if a player is blocking them or if the umpires can see it, so I would definitely backing – if it’s in Croke Park or the big stadiums – why not use the Hawk-Eye or the VAR, to make sure that the decisions aren’t wrong on the day.”
