A 19-year-old man from Dublin, Kyle Lawrence , has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison for his involvement in the November 2023 Dublin riots. Lawrence pleaded guilty to two counts of violent disorder , one count of trespass and theft at Arnotts department store, where he took clothing and a shoe box.
The court viewed CCTV footage showing Lawrence throwing items at police units, vandalizing an abandoned Garda car and bus, entering several shops during the riots, and leaving with stolen goods. Lawrence admitted to his actions, stating he was 'just following the crowds' and expressed remorse for his behaviour. His defence counsel emphasized his youthful immaturity and difficult childhood spent in state care, highlighting a psychological report that outlined his emotional and behavioural difficulties. Judge Martin Nolan acknowledged Lawrence's lack of instigation in the violence but condemned his enthusiastic participation. He noted Lawrence's co-operation with authorities and reduced a possible seven and a half-year sentence to four and a half years, suspending the final year on probation conditions
