Conor Burke admits he was surprised at Micheal Donoghue’s departure as Dublin manager, with a return to his native Galway now being touted.
Burke explained: “He had communicated prior to him stepping away that there was a lot of other factors at play in his life that were contributing to his ability to fully commit. “I think from Mattie's era to Micheal’s, there was a huge turnover of players. It was really building from scratch, he took it as a bit of a project.
Who that will be is anyone’s guess right now, with no obvious candidate in sight. St Vincent’s man Burke is currently managed at club level by Pat Gilroy, who took charge of the county hurlers for a season in 2018 before stepping down, citing work commitments.
