The former Dublin star says that football has become 'a completely different' game thanks to the work of Jim Gavin and the FRC.

Connolly’s former Dublin boss Jim Gavin has earned many plaudits for the rule changes that his Football Review Committee has drawn up, with the game now a much more open and entertaining spectacle - which the seven-time All-Ireland winner says would have suited Gavin’s all-conquering side of the 2010s.

With Dublin having won the All-Ireland the year before that and the next six after it, that would add up to eight-in-a-row had they gone all the way in 2014. Against that, Connolly admitted that, under the current rules, the Dublin team that he graced would have been “way more susceptible on the other end of things as well” and, barring some minor tweaks, expects that the new rules will be retained after the 2025 season.
