Two-time Le Mans 24 Hours victor Romain Dumas won the first part of the St Mary’s Trophy as NASCAR legend Jimmie Johnson retired on his goodwoodrevival debut. Here's the report from a star-studded race for the touring cars of the 1960-66 era ⬇️
Dumas beat triple British Touring Car champion Gordon Shedden to pole as Ford Galaxie 500s dominated practice for the touring cars of the 1960-66 era. But engine problems prevented Shedden from starting and Dumas made a poor getaway.
Stippler got a run on Jordan out of Madgwick on lap four of 17, securing the spot approaching Fordwater before edging away. He then nibbled away at the leader’s gap and, with the help of traffic, was with the Galaxie in the closing stages. Stippler said: “The car was pretty strong, but Romain is such a fantastic driver. The GTA is one of my favourite cars and it’s a pleasure to be here.”
