Dundalk FC has announced the departure of manager Stephen O'Donnell due to the team's poor performance this season. Assistant manager Patrick Cregg has also left the club.
O’Donnell, who captained the Lilywhites to league and cup glory when Stephen Kenny was at the helm, has been under intense pressure this season.
Dundalk owner Brian Ainscough said today: “This has been a very difficult decision to make. Stephen is, and always will be, a legendary figure at Dundalk FC. Ainscough added: “I wish both of them the very best of luck in their future endeavours and they will always be welcome at Oriel Park.”O’Donnell, 38, said: “We always wanted what was the best for Dundalk FC and we worked tirelessly to try and do that.
“The way I left it with Brian was very amicable and I think the club is in really good hands going forward.Dundalk were smashed 4-1 away to Derry City on Friday and after that game, O’Donnell admitted his team were a “soft touch.”
