Dune2 may be using some scrapped designs for sandworms that were meant for the original Oscar-winning 2021 movie. “There are elements already designed that will be in Part Two.”

The filmmakers of Dune 2 may use unused sandworm designs from the first film. Dune: Part Two is the highly-anticipated sequel to the 2021 smash-hit Dune. Dune, based on the first half of the novel of the same name by Frank Herbert, tells the tale of young Paul Atreides as he rises to his destiny of becoming the leader of the desert planet Arrakis.

While Dune adapts only the first half of Herbert's novel, Warner Bros. was hesitant to greenlight a sequel until they were sure that the first film had been a success. While this certainly put quite a bit of pressure on Villeneuve and his team, Dune surpassed everyone's expectations, and the studio almost immediately gave the go-ahead for Dune: Part Two upon the film's release.

“We were initially going to go further into the story. Throughout preproduction, the script moves, it finds its place. It’s never definite until a certain time. So during the soft prep, there were areas of the screenplay that we did not end up covering when we locked the script and decided to shoot.” It seems that Vermette is not the only one who is ready to hit the ground running with Dune: Part Two's sandworm designs.

Hearing that the work on Dune: Part Two had begun before audiences even got to see the first film is very exciting. Given what the Oscar-winning creative team was able to deliver to audiences in their first outing with the world of Arrakis, it is very likely that they have some very exciting tricks up their sleeves for the sequel.
