Dustin Johnson, the golfing star, has plummeted to his lowest position in the Official World Golf Ranking since his rookie season on the PGA Tour back in 2008. The latest reshuffle of the OWGR list on Monday saw Johnson languishing as the 453rd-ranked player globally.
Despite his earnings skyrocketing, his world ranking has taken a hit. Since its inception two years ago, LIV has been hosting its 54-hole, no-cut events without offering world ranking points. "We are not at war with them," OWGR chairman Peter Dawson told the Associated Press. "This decision not to make them eligible is not political. It is entirely technical. LIV players are self-evidently good enough to be ranked. They're just not playing in a format where they can be ranked equitably with the other 24 tours and thousands of players trying to compete on them."
However, any optimism for a resolution from LIV was seemingly quashed earlier this year when Norman told his players that they had stopped pursuing OWGR points. "We have made significant efforts to fight for you and ensure your accomplishments are recognized within the existing ranking system," Norman wrote in a letter to his players.
