Dutch police have issued a warning about a group of Irish scammers who have been targeting pensioners in Amsterdam, forcing them to pay for unnecessary services. The scammers pose as English-speaking handymen offering services such as power washing houses and gutter repairs, and then demand exorbitant amounts of money. Residents are urged to be cautious and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
Dutch cops have warned people to be careful of a group of Irish scammers who forced a pensioner to give them €550 – for power washing his house.
“After performing these services, they ask for an unreasonable amount and do not hesitate to threaten you if you do not want to pay the amount.” “They would spray clean and impregnate the facade and the front garden tiles to ensure that no weeds or deposits get on the tiles." The men started spraying and when they were finished they knocked on his door – and demanded a payment of a whopping €550. The victim was shocked and queried the price – and said the Irishmen started to intimidate him.
The victim said he became frightened of the men and agreed to pay them the full sum in cash. "I don't really know why I approved of it all," he said. "They kept talking about my scooter and whether I was afraid it would be set on fire.
