The Dutch government will announce new measures on Friday to tackle a surge in coronavirus infections that is putting pressure on hospitals, Health Minister Hugo de Jonge said.

"Hospital admissions keep exceeding expectations and we have not seen the worst yet.
He said the government's panel of health experts would provide fresh policy advice by Thursday and that a decision would follow on Friday. The number of coronavirus patients in hospital has hit levels not seen since early May, and experts have warned that hospitals will reach full capacity in little more than a week if the virus is not contained.
