Latest figures show that almost 1.6 million people in the UK receive extra financial support to help them manage their medical conditions. The Department for Work and Pensions pays out a maximum amount of just over £100 per week under the 'Attendance Allowance', designed to held elderly people with disabilities or medical needs.
Those eligible are people of State Pension are or older with a physical or mental disability which is severe enough for them to need help. The support is paid out at two different rates depending on the level of care needed, reports Birmingham Live. There is a lower rate of £68.10 a week for those who need frequent help or constant supervision during the day, or supervision at night. There is also a higher rate of £101.75 a week for those who need supervision throughout both the day and night.The allowance is usually paid every four weeks, but claimants can ask for it to be paid weekly.
