The DWP has admitted that thousands of people were incorrectly denied an upgrade to their Personal Independence Payments, and has promised to pay back anyone who missed out on extra payments
Thousands of older people in Britain were mistakenly denied an upgrade to their Personal Independence Payments during the 2010s due to a significant error by the Department for Work and Pensions . Following a review into the failure to provide enhanced mobility payments, there is now a commitment to reimburse anyone who missed out on additional funds.
The confusion arose from how health assessors determined the final PIP mobility award, resulting in many missing out on vital support for disability. Specifically, claimants who failed to clearly communicate changes in their mobility needs during assessments were deprived of years' worth of payments.The higher mobility award currently stands at £75.75 per week, equating to £3,939 annually.
You may be entitled to an increased award for the mobility part of your PIP, even if you have stopped getting PIP, if all of the following apply:
