You could be entitled to extra payments
Brits have been warned to expect one of the most difficult winters that we have had in years, as the cost of living crisis continues in the lead up to Christmas. The soaring cost of energy bills may mean that even cooking a roast dinner is not possible for some, while others will struggle with simply heating their home.
The Department for Work and Pensions can award carers an additional £69.70 a week, which equates to £278 per month or over £3,000 per year. Carers must spend a minimum of 35 hours a week caring for another person in order to qualify for the reward, they must also be at least 16 years old. Other restrictions state that the claimant must live in England, Scotland or Wales and earn £132 a week or less. This is after tax, National Insurance and expenses, the Manchester Evening News reports.
In order for a carer to receieve their payment, the person that they care for must also be in receipt or one or more of the following:
