Some people on Tax Credits have been given a 30-day extension to make a claim for Universal Credit.

The Department for Work and Pensions will send out Migration Notices to people on legacy benefits when it is their time to make a new claim for Universal Credit . This is happening in stages for people on Tax Credits -only and will include those on other legacy benefits from 2027, to be completed by 2029.

The expansion through to December also includes a 'smaller number of Jobcentre Districts than previous months, as we bring in Couple Tax Credit claims and will be issuing migration notices to areas already within Move to UC activity'. Around 800,000 ESA cases, including those claiming both ESA and Housing Benefit, will remain after 2024/25, with the managed migration of these cases being delayed until 2028/29 as outlined in the 2022 Autumn Statement.
