DWP Universal Credit claimants with children could soon get an extra £60 a month in 'bold new move'
Good news could be on the way for people who receive Department of Work and Pension Universal Credit payment.
The benefit is made up of a standard allowance plus extra amounts for having children, disabilities or caring responsibilities. At present, claimants get an additional sum of £315 a month for a first or only child or £269.58 , reports BirminghamLive.For the second child, the extra amount is £269.58. There's a two-child limit on Universal Credit except if they were born before April 6, 2017, or in some special circumstances including multiple births and adoptions.
The charity also believes it would be in the best interests to scrap the benefit cap. This comes after a report claimed claimants are getting £50 docked from their payments and around a thousand households are losing £1,000 a month. "At £4 billion a year, it’s a bold yet realistic and affordable reform – and would help give many more children a brighter and more prosperous life that benefits everyone."
