The Green Party leader said the autumn of 2024, as favoured by many in Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil, would not be a good time for an election

The Green Party leader Eamon Ryan has said the next general election should not happen until March of 2025.

Minister Ryan wants the Government to run as late as possible in the hope of building more homes in that time.Speaking at the United Nations in New York, Minister Ryan said wants the coalition to last as long as it legally can."In the autumn of '24 we'll have probably a UK election, we'll have an American presidential election - do we want our election in the middle of that?

"In a world where there's very few stable governments, where actually that's a real benefit to the country.'A really important election'"I'd prefer to get as much things done in building as many houses between now and March '25, delivering as much of the climate agenda between then and then go to the people," he said.
