Mr Ryan has informed government leaders, Taoiseach Simon Harris and the leader of Fianna Fail Michael Martin, of his decision.

Eamon Ryan is set to step down as leader of the Green Party , with an announcement expected later on today after the cabinet meets.

The party lost their two MEPs - Ciaran Cuffe didn't retain his seat in Dublin, while Grace O'Sullivan was also unsuccessful in Ireland South. The party also lost half of their local council seats.

Ryan has led the party since 2011. He won a leadership contest in 2020 against Catherine Martin, by 994 votes to 946.
