Kitty Castledine, who made her EastEnders debut this year, has a star-studded real life family – as Penny Branning's club night at Peggy's takes a horrifying turn on the soap
EastEnders' Penny Branning's debut club night at Peggy's is set to take a terrifying turn on the soap – but what fans might not know about the actress that play Penny is that she has a famous family, including a TV star mum. Kitty Castledine, 22, burst onto screens at the beginning of the year as EastEnders' Penny, hitting things off with a drugs mule storyline as she stashed drugs into her cousin, Lauren's suitcase in Paris.
Kitty praised her family for their support in her career after she was paralysed by an illness at the age of seven. She told The Mirror: "I’ve always done theatre, and I used to love dancing. Then I was paralysed by an illness at seven. But my family’s response was, 'Well she’s not going to stop doing theatre just because she’s paralysed. She can still act in a wheelchair.' I was so lucky to have that support.
A third told Homes Under The Hammer star Lucy: "Hi I never knew Kitty is ur daughter, with respect great actress, and just wondered are u still doing TV programmes?" The character made her return to the BBC One soap this year, originally portrayed by Mia McKenna-Bruce back in 2008, but now Kitty has taken on the role. Since returning from France, Penny has stirred up plenty of drama in Walford.
As regular watchers of the BBC One soap will recall, Penny landed the role of managing Peggy's after Phil Mitchell found Chelsea Fox drinking while on duty.
