Much loved character Whitney Dean left Walford a couple of weeks ago for a fresh start and actress Shona McGarty is satisfied with her exit and pleased that she wasn't killed off

Shona McGarty has responded to soap fans' criticism of her character Whitney Dean’s exit from EastEnders.

She also said the door is open for a return in the future.

“I just had to be brave and make that decision. I had been toying with the idea for the last two or three years. The only reason is that I want to do different things. Time flies in life – I had been in EastEnders 16 years, I gave it a good go.” “It’s very different from television because if you make a mistake, you can’t do it again. But I’m so excited to be on stage,” Shona said.

Shona is also excited to spend summer in Ireland as she has lots of family connections and knows the country as well. Plus her boyfriend, musician David Bracken, is from Offaly. Shona and David started dating last year and she likes being with someone who is also in the industry.
