Rob Edwards' post-match thoughts had a familiar ring to them after watching his side battle to victory over Burnley watfordfc

The season may be only three games old but the qualities which pleased Rob Edwards most about Watford’s performance had a familiar ring to them following the 1-0 victory over Burnley.

Tom Cleverley scored what proved to be the winner in first-half injury time, but the Hornets were forced to dig in to secure the three points following Hassane Kamara’s red card with ten minutes remaining. Edwards said: “We were tested again, which we knew we would, be but I’m obviously delighted with the three points. You’re already bored of hearing me say it after three games but again the character, the resilience, the unity of the players because of the circumstances in going down to ten men was excellent.

“I thought there wasn’t loads in the first half. I was quite pleased with how we performed, the goal came at a terrific time for us but perhaps that changed the mind shift a little bit going into the second half. “I thought they got a little bit of momentum in that second period but we looked fairly solid, the first few shots were from the edge of the box on the volley so I thought we were okay. Then clearly the red card happens and it put us on the back foot, but to get the victory in the end was great because they’re a good team.”
