After a miserable start to the year, Ireland is set to have a period of settled weather with no heavy periods of rain, as the national forecaster explained high pressure will bring these conditions

The national forecaster explained that it will stay mostly dry and cool, but it will turn cloudier over the weekend.

Met Eireann wrote: “Week 1 is indicating a slight signal for low pressure to build in the Atlantic but indicates high pressure centred to the northeast, continuing to influence our weather. This will bring further settled weather with drier than average conditions signalled across most of the country apart from along the south coast where wetter conditions are indicated.

Tonight will be cold, dry and largely clear with light easterly winds. Lowest temperatures of -3 to +1 degrees with widespread frost and a few icy patches. Saturday, 8 February A cloudier day overall with the best of the sunshine across the west and northwest. Cool with highest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees in a light northeasterly breeze.
