Eight people have been killed and seven injured in a shooting at a Dallas shopping centre. A hospital treating the injured says the ages of the victims range from 5 to 61.

Authorities believe the gunman was acting alone when he opened fire in the late afternoon. He was fatally shot by a police officer who happened to be nearby.

Authorities did not immediately provide details about the victims, but witnesses reported seeing children among them.A witness on the scene said he heard 10 to 15 gunshots as he was inside a shop in the Mall. “I heard 10, 15 more shots go off,” he said. “And we see the guy - there’s this guy dressed in all black, wearing a vest, has an assault rifle, and he’s just shooting at people.

Dashcam video that circulated online showed a gunman step out of a vehicle outside the shopping centre and immediately start shooting at people on the pavement. More than three dozen shots could be heard as the vehicle recording the video drove off.
