Detectives have issued a warning after criminals posing as police persuaded pensioners to withdraw large sums of cash which they then sent couriers to steal.
It has urged people to be on their guard against convincing and plausible cold callers asking them to take cash from their bank accounts. The caller told the man he needed him to withdraw cash to check the serial numbers on notes and sent riders who took £9,000 from him.A 74-year-old woman from the Clarendon Park, Leicester, was also contacted, on Friday, by a bogus police officer claiming to be investigating counterfeit currency.
