Alabama Republicans will gather in hotels, banquet halls and event centers on Tuesday to celebrate the party’s General Election wins. But given the realities of Alabama politics, where the GOP has long dominated, will the celebrating fall a little flat?
‘Record number’ of female candidates? Alabama Republicans, Democrats cite work with women before election
“I hear your conversation that ‘she didn’t beat anyone and why are you having a big celebration?’” said Jonathan Gray, a Mobile-based GOP political strategist. “But it’s not a celebration. The campaign victory party is a victory party, but no one calls it a celebration. It’s a token event.” Alabama Gov. For Ivey, the 78-year-old incumbent who most believe is running her final campaign, the election night gathering is expected to be a subdued event that will include her thanking voters and supporters.
David Mowery, a Montgomery-based consultant, said he believes the exuberance at Britt’s gathering “will be high.” Her Democratic opponent, Will Boyd, has raised around $117,000 during this campaign cycle. Britt’s campaign haul is over $9 million, and she is expected to roll to an easy victory.
