Six fresh faces will be around the table when Leitrim County Council holds its next meeting, with a third of its 18 councillors having been newly elected.
Among the new names is Fine Gael's Maeve Reynolds who was elected to the Carrick-on-Shannon LEA. The mum of three young children told RTÉ that family issues - such as the lack of childcare - were her main reason for running.
Also new to the table in Manorhamilton is Fianna Fáil's Gary Prior who was elected on count seven, and Sinn Féin's Cormack Flynn who took the last seat in the Carrick-on-Shannon electoral area.Fianna Fáil remains the largest party on Leitrim County Council, retaining its six seats. First over the line was Paddy O'Rourke of Ballinamore LEA with a poll-topping 1,434 first preference vote.
James Gilmartin’s strong performance in Manorhamilton helped independents Eddie Mitchell and Felim Gurn to win seats. In Carrick, popular incumbents Enda Stenson and Des Guckian were returned on count four. Drumshanbo-based Enda McGloin was Fine Gael’s highest vote-getter, elected on the first count with 1,033 first preferences.
