Billionaire Elon Musk sparked controversy by suggesting America should liberate Britain from its government in a poll on his social media platform X. This follows his withdrawal of support for Britain's right-wing Reform UK party and his ongoing attacks against Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Musk's interest in European politics also extends to Germany, where he has backed the far-right Alternative for Germany party.

Musk’s decision not to back, or financially support, Britain’s right-wing reform party came as he continues a barrage of online attacks against prime minister Keir Starmer, who he has accused of being complicit in “the rape of Britain”.
