Prosecutors with the Ohio Attorney General’s Office say Antonio Sprinkle, 30, tracked down and killed Antwan Dormendo, 27, inside an Elyria gas station on Aug. 16, 2019.

According to the attorney general’s office, Sprinkle confessed to Elyria police that he stabbed Dormendo, saying he believed Dormendo had burglarized his apartment a month earlier and urinated on his mattress. Sprinkle told police he began carrying a steak knife with the intent to rob or stab Dormendo.

On Aug. 15, 2019, the two men saw each other during a get-together with friends, authorities say. During the early-morning hours of Aug. 16, Sprinkle saw Dormendo at a gas station on Lake Avenue and got into Dormendo’s car. Dormendo tried to drive away but didn’t make it out of the parking lot before his car hit a curb.

Dormendo reportedly got out of his car covered in blood and ran into the gas station asking for help. A clerk called 911, and Dormendo was taken by ambulance to a hospital, but he died from three stab wounds to the chest. Dormendo reportedly identified Sprinkle as his attacker before he died. Sprinkle drove off in Dormendo’s car and went to Rocky River. He was involved in a crash that left behind the front license plate of the car. He then drove to a gas station in Cleveland, where he abandoned the car around 1 a.m. Sprinkle then took an Uber back to Elyria, where he was arrested at 7 a.m.

The blade of the knife used in the stabbing was found in Dormendo’s abandoned car, authorities say. Tests conducted by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation confirmed the Dormendo’s DNA was on the blade. Testing also confirmed that Dormendo’s blood was on Sprinkle’s hands when he was arrested. If you purchase a product or register for an account through one of the links on our site, we may receive compensation.
