INMO says emergency measures are required to deal with overcrowding at Cork's two largest hospitals
The INMO said that Cork University Hospital and Mercy University Hospital are operating "beyond their limits" and that they expect the situation to get worse next week.
The INMO said the health and safety of its members working at Cork University Hospital and the Mercy University Hospital is at risk and that management there must address that. Ms Ní Sheaghdha said they would be asking the HSE to make a plan and provide extra resources to deal with the situation which she said will not change for a number of weeks.
She said the situation has been made worse by the flu outbreak and that there is not enough space to keep patients in isolation.
