It comes as the local council issued a 'risk to life' warning for people living in the town.
Fire crews and coastguard teams have begun the evacuation process on River Street in Brechin, Angus this evening. Two fire engines and multiple coastguard vehicles have been spotted at the scene as crews from both services knock on residents’ doors advising them to leave the area.
"The Brechin flood defences are designed to deal with river levels of 3.8m. This means that there is a serious risk to life from excessive flooding. Flooding levels in the area are expected to peak at 1am and again at 8am on Friday. Earlier on Thursday, two residents living on the street told the PA news agency that they had no intention of leaving their homes despite the severe weather warning.
He said the wall had successfully stopped water from getting in from the street previously where flooding was severe. He said: “I won’t be leaving because my wife won’t go.”
