Roads have been flooded, homes have been left without water and businesses have had to close

Scores of homes have been left without water and businesses have been forced to close after a burst water main in Bury. The pipe began leaking on Hornby Street near the town centre earlier this morning.

Coun Tamoor Tariq, deputy leader of Bury Council and ward councillor for Redvales, said: "Issue has been caused by a burst water pipe near the centre of Bury. This has meant some businesses are closing."United Utilities working to get emergency supplies going & main supplies are to be sorted by lunchtime today. @BuryCouncil are in direct contact."

Donna Ball, executive director at Bury Council said on Twitter the issue was affecting 'many homes and businesses.' She said Castle Leisure was currently closed and there was also 'some impact' at Bury Market. Shortly before 10am, the council's own Twitter feed posted saying: "Tankers have arrived. Houses and buildings in surrounding areas are affected by the burst pipe and United Utilities are working on this. The water should be back on in approximately 1 hour."
