A fine win for the young Irish side to end their South Africa tour.
Emerging Ireland ended their three test tour of South Africa with a 100% record after beating Toyota Cheetahs 33-24 in Bloemfontein on Wednesday evening.
A second almost followed moments later when Friedle Olivier broke the Irish defence. However, a neck roll a phase earlier got Easterby’s side out of trouble. But the tourists fought back hard again. Ben O’Connor set Andrew Osborne free on the right wing and the Leinster star made no mistake with the finish.
The game seemed to be petering out when an exhausted Carl Wegner was sent to the sin-bin for a high shot on Charlie Tector. But that card lit a fire under the Cheetahs, who took the lead while down to 14-men when Michael Annies ghosted between Stephen Smith and Ben O’Connor to put the South African side five points ahead entering the final 10 minutes.
