Screen Rant spoke to TheEnglish stars Emily Blunt & Chaske Spencer about their physical and emotional preparation for PrimeVideo's new Western:
Prime Video's newest series, The English, is a gorgeous and at times gruesome take on the Western genre. Written and directed by Hugo Blick, whose work with strong female leads is well-documented in The Honourable Woman and Black Earth Rising, the 6-episode series follows a noblewoman on the hunt for her son's killer and a Pawnee scout who recently retired from the military. Together, they head to the new town of Hoxem, Wyoming to fulfill their fateful quest for vengeance.
Chaske Spencer: We had some time before we went to film, and we rehearsed weeks before via Zoom. And then when we got to location, we rehearsed a lot and just talked about the scenes. We just got all the beats out whenever we could rehearse. It was really fun and easy to go into those scenes because she's phenomenal.
Chaske Spencer: Every Native American has a different experience, so I don't bring that weight into the production. It doesn't help me. And in the long run, it doesn't help me as an artist to try to convey that, because I'd get too tied up in that.
