Matthew Wolfenden was emotional on This Morning as he confirmed the legendary character's exit
The soap star is renowned for his role as David Metcalfe in the fictional Yorkshire village. The 43-year-old appeared on today's edition of This Morning and announced he is set to leave the soap.
Matthew has been a key member of the cast since 2006 and was in tears as the show broadcast some of his best bits from his memorable stint on the show. He said: "That made me really emotional!"I am so nervous about leaving, nearly 20 years, almost two decades. It feels like the right time, the door has been left open - they're not killing me off, I've been promised. Who knows, I might be back. Yeah, but we will see.
Matthew was giving a tissue to wipe away his tears as he explained the important part the show has played in his life. He said: "He continued: "I met my wife on the show [Charley Webb, who played Debbie Dingle], we've had three kids, so not only has it given me 18 years of an amazing job, it's given me a family so to leave it, it's been a big part of my life and the most wonderful 18 years."Win a top-of-the-range Shark vacuum cleaner worth £449.
