Vladimir Putin has paid tribute to Silvio Berlusconi, one of his closest friends among Western politicians.
The emotional Russian leader described Mr Berlusconi as a rare political leader who ‘said what he thought’.. He was 86 and the longest serving post-war prime minister of Italy. Speaking to Russian state television, Putin described Mr Berlusconi as ‘a politician of a European, I even might say of a global scale’.‘He was a great friend of our people and did a lot to develop business and friendly relations.‘He had a privilege that politicians of his calibre don’t have – and the privilege was that he said what he thought.They were close political allies
’It is a pity. I want to express my sincere regrets and condolences to the Italian people and to all the relatives of Mr Berlusconi.
