🔴 The energy price cap is set to return, experts say, as the Chancellor confirmed the Energy Price Guarantee would no longer be universal from April next year

Now, Jeremy Hunt has announced it will no longer be universal as of April next year, and is to be reviewed.

It predicted in August, before the price cap was replaced with the Energy Price Guarantee, that the average household would be paying £5,341.08 annually on a default tariff as of April. He said: “The price cap will stay – the question is whether the Government will fund to lower the cap.“They are hoping that prices come off which means they won’t need to provide as much support and can claim they’ve driven prices down.

“Suppliers cannot be expected to be the experts in this area and it creates risk that those who need the support do not receive it. The Government’s focus should be on ensuring that people have enough money to pay for the essentials.”is the maximum amount a utility company can charge an average customer in the UK per year for the amount of electricity and gas they use on default, or standard variable, tariffs.on to the consumer.
