The Environmental Protection Agency worker behind a ‘reduce your meat’ tweet that went viral last year says she lost faith in the government watchdog after they buckled to pressure from agriculture and removed it.
Agriculture is Ireland’s biggest-polluting sector in terms of climate-harming emissions - producing 37.8 per cent of the nation’s emissions in 2023 - the EPA’s own stats show. “Here’s the issue: No matter what was said at the time, the reason that Environmental Protection Agency Ireland deleted a post - one which was scientifically and environmentally sound - was chiefly at the behest of those working in agriculture.
“More personally, it was made clear at several team meetings and via an All Staff email that the sharing of the post was seen by management as the mistake.
