The Epson EF-21 is a compact laser projector designed for home entertainment. It features built-in Google TV, offering seamless access to popular streaming services. This review delves into its performance, design, features, and overall value.
I tested the Epson EF-21 for several weeks. It's a compact laser projector for the home that comes with built-in Google TV so you can easily access all your favourite streaming services such as Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV+, Prime Video, Now and Paramount+. It was released as part of the EpiqVision range alongside the EF-22, which is exactly the same machine on the inside but also comes with a built-in stand that enables you to rotate it so you can be a bit more flexible with its placement.
Both projectors offer full HD resolution, 1,000 lumens of brightness, 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio, two built-in 5W speakers and an aesthetically pleasing design. I reviewed the smoke ice green EF-21 which is also available in a warm white hue. Whereas the EF-22 comes in metallic black or metallic blue. Both are minimalist designs that scream premium. The firm said both machines can project onto a screen size of up to 150 inches. And they come with handy features such as automatic focus, keystone correction, obstacle avoidance and screen fit. The system is responsive too, quickly correcting itself if you move it, or if an obstacle gets in the way. Setting up the Epson EF-21 was simple using my Google Home app. Once you are up and running, the user interface is slick and easy to navigate. I tested the EF-21 on a screen 80 inches in size and was super impressed by the sharp and colourful images it delivered. The colour accuracy is consistently pleasing. The 1,000 lumens of brightness means it works best in darker rooms. You get HDR10 support too and the aspect ratio is 16:9. Epson EF-21 has a small adjustable leg on the front but it worked best for me when using it with a projector stand. Other features to note include a HDMI ARC port, headphone port, USB-A port and a universal mounting hole for a tripod. You also get a remote control with large buttons and quick access to YouTube, Netflix and Prime Video along with brightness control and settings. And you can use the EF-21 as a Bluetooth speaker, although the two 5W speakers won’t exactly fill the room with audio. The compact size of the EF-21 and the relatively light 2.3kg weight means it is easy to move around. This makes it ideal for everything from office presentations to family movie nights. Verdict Overall, this is a solid, stylish and compact laser projector from a reputable brand you can trust. Pricing and availability Epson EF-21 costs €973.17 from epson.ie or €834 from Amazon
