'African-Americans need not apply': ESPN's Stephen A. Smith blasts Texans after firing Lovie Smith

Smith gave his fiery take the morning after the. That firing came after David Culley, another Black head coach, was shown the door by the Texans after just one season when he went 4-13 in 2021. In 2020, Romeo Crennel took over as the team's interim head coach following Bill O'Brien's 0-4 start. Crennel went 4-8 to finish the year and wasn't given the full-time job, instead taking over a role as a team advisor.

"The Houston Texans organization — I’m going to say something loud and clear over the national airwaves and I don’t give a damn what anybody thinks — African-Americans need not apply," Stephen A. Smith said."This is not an organization that has been fair to African-Americans as far as I’m concerned and I have these two as an example. You can use Romeo Crennel and the kind of situation they put him in in the past. I don’t like this organization.
