European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders is to meet representatives from Twitter and Meta while on a visit to Dublin.
He is in Ireland today and tomorrow and will also hold talks with Minister for Justice Helen McEntee and Data Protection Commissioner Helen Dixon.He will meet civil society organisations to discuss hate crime and data protection, among other topics.
The meetings with Twitter and Meta follow recent announcements of job losses at the companies and the Commissioner will be keen to ensure that recent departures, particularly at Twitter, won't impact on the social media platforms' regulatory obligations when it comes to EU data protection and online content rules.
While in Ireland, Mr Reynders will also discuss rule of law developments, content moderation and energy matters. The Commissioner will address members of the Oireachtas Committee on European Union Affairs to present the Commission's work on sanctions against Russia, the investigation and prosecution of war crimes, the findings of the latest rule of law report, cooperation with the European Public Prosecutor's Office and recent initiatives in the area of hate speech and hate crime.
Commissioner Reynders will take part in the Citizens' Energy Forum, deliver the opening speech at the National Consumer Dialogue and attend an event on Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence.
