Montenegro and North Macedonia are out.
RTCG, Montenegro's public service broadcaster, said in a statement:"In addition to the significant costs of registration fees, as well as the cost of staying in Great Britain – we also faced a lack of interest from sponsors, so we decided to direct existing resources to the financing of current and planned national projects."
Meanwhile, North Macedonia's broadcaster, MRT, said"the increased registration fee for the participation" has forced it to drop out as well as the ongoing energy crisis in the country. They may not be the only countries to pull out, either. Several other unnamed countries are reportedly weighing up exits, too.
The EBU, the organisers of the Eurovision Song Contest, said that it is"committed to keeping the costs of taking part as affordable as possible" and stated that when calculating the fees for each country's involvement, they take into account"the member's relative size and financial status".
