Sports broadcaster Evanne Ní Chuilinn , who recently resigned from RTÉ and joined Fine Gael , has been appointed as a Senator for the party. Taoiseach Micheál Martin announced a team of seven women and four men to fill the remaining 11 seats in the Seanad , the upper House of the Oireachtas. The appointments were made in accordance with the Government agreement, with six seats allocated to Fianna Fáil leader and five to Fine Gael Tánaiste Simon Harris.
Joining Ní Chuilinn in the Fine Gael team are Nikki Bradley, Noel O’Donovan, Manus Boyle, and Gareth Scahill. The Fianna Fáil appointments include former minister of state Anne Rabbitte, Lorraine Clifford-Lee (who previously held a Seanad seat), Limerick mayoral candidate Dee Ryan, Tipperary councillor Imelda Goldsboro, and Louth election candidate and former broadcaster Alison Comyn. These nominations were anticipated to address concerns regarding the gender representation in the recently formed Cabinet, where only six Ministers of State and three full Cabinet members are women. The appointments also aimed to select senators with a high probability of being elected. The Seanad currently has 19 seats held by Fianna Fáil, 18 by Fine Gael, 12 Independents, 6 by Sinn Féin, 2 by Labour, 1 by the Social Democrats, 1 by the Green Party, and 1 by Aontú
