I felt like a bride out of a film when my husband and I got married a year after meeting each other. I was so happy and felt sure we’d always feel this way. I remember thinking we would never end up like those couples who seem to argue all the time and treat each other badly. This was for life. We were good for a while, and enjoyed being parents to our first child. That was a really lovely time.
I know it’s normal to get on each other’s nerves, especially after 10 years of marriage, but I am finding him insufferable to the point where even the way he eats a bag of crisps sets my teeth on edge. It’s like he’s chewing through a concrete wall, the sound he makes. The way he slurps soup and also his coffee is deafeningly loud. I also can’t stand the way he burps all the time, I can feel my shoulders seize up when he does it in this self-satisfied way.
He might have always eaten and breathed this way, but I’ve only started to notice lately. I’ve never considered myself a neurotic or angry person but I feel rage a lot of the time when I’m around him. Sometimes it’s not just a feeling of dislike, it’s a hatred. It’s awful to feel that way about the man you married, but that’s the truth.
