Gardaí organising next week's historic commemoration marking the arrival of the Civic Guard to Cork 100 years ago this month are keen to hear from descendants of the 60 men dispatched to serve in the city
A reenactment of their deployment by boat to Cork on 9 November 1922 is to take place next Wednesday as part of a number of events to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Civic Guard, later renamed An Garda Síochána.
A garda spokesperson said it would be a major historical event for the Cork City garda division and they hope the public will help them mark it. "A special invitation goes out to all the relatives, family and friends of garda members who served in Cork City past and present."
