Howard Webb this evening delivered an in-depth assessment of the shambolic VAR error that saw Luis Diaz denied a legitimate goal during Liverpool's defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at the end of September.
England communicated 'check complete' to Hooper without specifying whether the goal should stand or be ruled out and the match resumed as normal. This proved to be a costly error, with Liverpool going on to suffer a 2-1 defeat having been denied a goal that would put them one goal ahead on the evening.
“Nobody is more disappointed than the officials themselves. They take pride in their work, they want to be a positive influence on the game but, in this situation, it wasn't the case. Of course without VAR that disallowed goal would still have been a disallowed goal but VAR exists to step in when we make a wrong decision on the field. So of course we're disappointed.
