In news that is going to dampen Christmas cheer, the price of your average grocery bill has increased again – this time to a new high of 12.4 per cent
RISING COST: Food inflation has surged again, piling more pressure on struggling Britons
It marks the highest inflation rate on record for the food category, up from 11.6 per cent in October, according to the latest figures from the British Retail Consortium . Shop prices accelerated from 6.6 per cent in October to 7.4 per cent in November. Everyday basic items such as dairy, meat, and eggs saw the biggest price hike, while coffee costs also"shot up." Experts at the BRC say that the hikes are due to the rising energy, animal feed, and transportation costs, which are then passed on to shoppers in stores.
