The pill could be available in 2027
The pills have already been tested on mice, and the studies found that they were 99% effective in preventing pregnancies.
Will there be any side effects? Unlike the female equivalent the pill won't be hormonal. Other potential pills formulated for men have targeted the male hormone testosterone, leading to a risk of obesity and depression. It is not entirely clear if any side effects will be totally swerved - after all, mice are unable to report feelings of discomfort and sadness or indeed, headaches!
However, six weeks after halting the treatment they were able to conceive once more. This possibly suggests the potential new pill won't create long term barriers to fatherhood for those it's prescribed for.
