Green TD Neasa Hourigan has said she will support a Sinn Féin motion to keep the eviction ban.

Green Party TD Neasa Hourigan has said she will vote against the Government and back a Sinn Féin motion to retain the eviction ban.

The Government has come under pressure and criticism after revealing the eviction moratorium would not be extended beyond March 31st.Advertisement"Last month, a motion from the Just Transition Greens to uphold the ban on evictions until such time as the Government had completed a significant policy intervention in the housing sector was agreed by the party's monthly council," she said.

She said while every party recognises"the dire housing crisis in Ireland", this vote is not about policy. "It's about a sense of urgency, and about what this housing crisis looks like on the ground," she added.:"I think first of all it's the wrong decision in terms of keeping people in their homes and protecting them during a housing crisis."Not too long ago... the party's policy council - which is made up of our grassroot members - reaffirmed their commitment to the idea of an eviction ban on a short-term basis.
